Delusions of Grandeur

I have officially been at my mom's for a week now. Things are getting a little more settled, although, there's still tons to do. We finally unloaded the last load from the truck. I do have a few things left in my car, but that's minor. The washer/dryer (I have a stacked apartment set) has finally made it's way to it's new home in the basement. Double the laundry power when it's all set up! It'll be like a mini laundromat! And we're getting a little more used to the routine here.

So, I've realized it's kinda nice having "mom and dad" in the house. The laundry magically appears some days, already washed and folded. The dishes sometimes are washed without my knowing it. And so far, there have been no major battles. I know I can't expect them to do all of the household stuff, but it is really nice when it happens and it's a surprise!

I was thinking how funny it is that now my laundry is actually washed after being correctly sorted by color/type now. I admit, I was not always strict on the sorting process. It's ok if the whites looked a little dingy, I didn't mind. But, now... It feels "wrong" to even think of washing the clothes all mixed up! Oh, and drying my blankets out on a clothesline... ahhh... now that's just like home when I was a kid.

I had received a french press coffee maker from my wonderful friend, Heather, a year or two ago. I had used it, maybe a few times. I loved the idea of it, but for some reason didn't really see the "convenience" of it when I could make coffee in a regular coffee maker. Until now, that is. I refused to let mom donate my tea kettle. I told her it was needed to boil water for the french press. I think she thought I was crazy. Then yesterday, it dawned on me. I could go down to the kitchen for five minutes, boil some water and make some coffee and then just bring the whole darn thing upstairs with me! No more running up and down the stairs for my morning caffeine fix! Those who know me, KNOW I have to have more than one cup to get me going in the mornings. So, problem solved! And I have delusions of grandeur thinking I am just the shit for drinking coffee made in a french press everyday. I know, I'm a sad, strange individual. I like to think it makes me lovable though.

Still on the agenda... more unpacking (I hate putting clothes away), decorating, and I really need to investigate buying a usb wireless adapter for my computer. I am tech savvy to an extent. I got some help from Heather and her hubby Todd on how to transform my router into a switch to add more internet lines... and it works, but it seems to boot all wireless signals when it's in use. So, I'm just gonna skip the whole router/switch thing and set mine up with wireless. It'll be a lot less aggravation for me in the long run.

Mmm... Dunkin Donuts coffee made in a french press. Lovely.

So, I guess with my delusions of grandeur, I have realized, they really aren't delusions at all. To some they may seem odd, pathetic, or just ridiculous... but to me it is grand. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. To me, right now... Life is pretty darn grand!

  1. It's great to hear that you've survived the move and things are looking up. I wouldn't call it delusions of grandeur so much as an appreciation for items of beautiful, elegant function.

  2. How wonderful having Mom and Dad around. It would be like having little elves in the house - Like the story the Shoemaker and the Elves.

Thankfully Mr. Sweet Butter does nearly all the laundry in the house but I haven't quite gotten him training on how to fold neatly and put things away where they belong. LOL Guess I can't complain.

I have been DREAMING of having a French Press coffee maker for some time now. I absolutely LOVE fresh pressed coffee. You reminded me to put it on my wish list. :)

Hope all settles in well Sheila.
