After we moved back into my mom's house, our dog Roxy had a tough time adjusting. She was not used to stairs. It took us quite a while to coax her up them to our part of the house. She has now conquered that, except for the fact that she's lanky and clumsy and has fallen down (and up) them numerous times. I'm pretty sure it was meant for my un-graceful self to have an un-graceful dog. It's just right.
There are still places within the house that she just doesn't like. For example: the basement, the bathroom, and sometimes mom's room. She is also terrified of the refrigerator. The ice maker completely freaks her out.
Mom's dog Buddy (a.k.a. rat on crack) isn't afraid of much of anything. Except thunderstorms. Thunderstorms, naturally, send Roxy into complete hysterics. She will try to find the first adult and cower behind them.
I am always calling Roxy "Chicken Pup"... it reminds of me CatDog for some reason.
Now, Wednesdays are our usual night to go out and eat wings. I don't eat wings, but my kids do... and they are only .35 each on Wednesdays. But, it's my chance to actually get out of the house and hang out with my friends.
I live in an area of the U.S. that has become the new tornado alley in the past year. We had a devastating tornado about 30 minutes up the road last year, and most of my town suffered a lot of damage from it. Not to mention everyone here is now terrified of storms.
The past two Wednesdays, it has stormed. Last week, my mother texted me and said my "wussy puppy was scared to death and shivering on one side" of her while her dog shivered on the other. Poor puppies.
Last night, it started storming again. It didn't seem too bad, so I didn't think much about it, I just watched the news on the big screen at the wing joint... just in case.
By the time we got home, Miss Thang and I ran for the bathroom, as we really needed to go. I turn the light on, and lo and behold there sat Roxy... in the bathtub... shivering like a vibrating Elmo doll. Awww, poor puppy. She was so terrified of the storm she ran into a place she's terrified of to hide. I find it funny that she would go to a place that is recommended for torandoes without being coaxed in there. Smart puppy!
We finally get her out of the tub (which was not easy), for her to only keep going back to it and eventually jumping in it again. Just weird.
After everything calmed down, we watched some t.v. and went to bed. All except for the man child of course.. his sleep schedule is ridiculous. Anyway, at 12:30 he starts poking me and yelling for me to get up. "Whaaat??!!" I remember saying. And that's when I heard it... the tornado sirens. Here we go again.
I jump up, light a cigarette and watch the news. I think we lucked out and one never actually touched down, although a neighboring town had some major wind damage.
But, that was enough to jolt me awake (shaking and all) and it took me a good hour and a half to get back to sleep. And they say we're supposed to have more storms tomorrow. I need to rest up before then.
The entire time we were up last night Roxy was a shadow. The man child's this time. She was never more than a few inches away from him or myself. Gotta love her. When I finally wound down enough to go back to bed, I had Roxy laying on one side of me, and Buddy on the other.
Now, I am caffeinating... if only I had a caffeine i.v. bag. *yaaaaawn* Gotta get ready for work. Until next time friends!
